Inactive Duty Training

Call your NOSC for questions about IDT.

  • Failure to complete scheduled IDT periods may lead to an unfavorable discharge.
  • If you don't earn 50 points each anniversary year you may not be in good standing with the USNR and it may result in unfavorable administrative action. BUPERSINST 1001.39F has all the details on this.

Reservists automatically qualify for 48 IDT periods of training each fiscal year. For traditional reservists, IDT is intended to be used one weekend a month for your drill weekend. Each IDT period must be at least 4 hours long and the member receives one drill pay for completing one IDT period. In a typical drill weekend you will complete 4 IDT periods. IDT periods can be rescheduled if there is a conflict with another training period or for the needs of the Navy.
